The Severn bore occurs on every high tide. Most are quite
small but when the sun's gravity combines with the moons, ie. they
are in line, then the bores can reach quite spectacular heights.
Add to this influence from the wind, and extra water coming down the
river, and the bores are better still.
The best bores are on "spring" tides, nothing to do with the season
but all to do with the sun and moon combining to produce the highest
tides. |
