The Farne Islands give great opportunities to photograph the Auks.  Boats sail regularly during the simmer months (weather permitting) with June being the most popular time for the breeding Auks and Terns.  It's not cheap (circa £70 (2009) for a full day but it is a day you will never forget.)
You will also see what terrible bullies Gulls can be.
