If you want to see Gannets at close quarters and you don't want to stray from the mainland go to Bempton cliffs in Yorkshire.  Not only do you get great views of gannets soaring along the headland but you can watch them nesting as well.
Also there are Tree Sparrows, Guillemots, Razorbills and Puffins.
