| The young dipper above shows well the technique of getting under the water to seek out invertebrates, typically cadis fly larvae. They will disappear completely under the water, even in really fast flowing torrents. | ||
 The adults are more strikingly marked, the plumage showing much more contrast between upper and lower parts. |
